A good quality entry which I very much enjoyed judging. I was very pleased with my main winners and in a few classes there were some very close decisions. Thank you to my Stewards for the relaxed and professional way in which they handled their job. Presentation was, as always, first class. Wish I could say the same about clean teeth!

Puppy Dog (5:2)
1. Burfitt’s Breaksea Captain Scarlet. 7 months brown. Pleasing outline, good bone. Nicely balanced head, good mouth and toning eye, firm topline. Needs to tighten up in movement. Well handled, very promising. BEST PUPPY DOG/BEST OPPOSITE PUPPY.
2. Everill’s Brodaty E-Male to Emulas. Another 7 month brown, but not as mature as 1. Good length to height ratio, nice eye, pleasing shape, easy on the move but lacked the drive of 1.

Puppy Dog (4:2)
1. Captain Scarlet
2. Ayrton’s Braddabrook Muto. 9 months blue, not as settled as 1, good head, eye and expression. correct shoulder and length of rib, balanced angulation, forward in coat, a little untidy coming and going which should come with age.
Junior Dog (6:0)
1. Wadron’s Cartier De Chester at Snowmead (Imp Fra). Blue, lovely type, nice head, eye and expression, correct length to height ratio, free flowing effortless gait, good bone, rib, topline and rear angulation. With time feel he will do really well.
2. Hood’s Bryonyhill Mr Ree. Slate, nice head and appealing expression, good topline, correct ribcage, well proportioned, coat developing well, not the reach of 1.
3. Sewell’s Malandex Xactly Right for Kemelstowe JW
Yearling Dog (8:1)
Difficult class which could have concluded in several different variations on another day.
1. Fox/Farrier’s Bushblades Transaction JW. Slate, beautiful head and expression with toning eye, correctly angulated fromt ad rear, well balanced with effortless movement One to watch for the future.
2. Felton’s Kittistone Sea Lord JW Impressive slate, strong head with good eye, lovely front, good ribs, well balanced and nicely constructed all throughout, moved well but today was unsettled. Close decision with 1.
3. Cartier De Chester at Snowmead (Imp Fra)
Veteran Dog (9:4)
1. Glasspool’s Ch Leamedo Weaver O’Dreams for Gildenmede JW. 7 years, dark slate, very appealing, quality boy of lovely type, wonderful melting expression, good broad skull, correct bite, dark eye, well constructed and balanced throughout, well handed and presented. Not quite sound in challenge for best veteran.
2. Edwards’ Roxilyn Dark Star JW Brown another who appealed lovely head and expression with toning eye good front, correct length and proportions, level topline, well balanced with pleasing movement.
3. Buckley’s Holtend Heartbeat

Special Vintage Dog (2:0)
1. Felton’s Labooshar Lord Spencer. 12 and a half years slate who was unlucky never to achieve his title. Perfectly balanced front and rear. Superb head and eye that tones with his coat, lovely overall length, strong well muscled rear, moved with a fee and easy stride. Well handled and presented. BEST VETERAN DOG/BEST VETERAN IN SHOW.
(Critique by the Bitch Judge – from Vintage class 13 this year he showed that Beardies have that love of life, he flowed round the ring saying “look at me”, a real charmer. A credit to you).
2. Horne’s Potterdale Montana. 11 year old slate, good head and expression wth toning eye, correctly angulated fore and aft, well handled and presented. Not he movement of 1.

2. Holder’s Braemoray Glenrothers. Slate good head and expression, correct shoulder. Moved well but would like more animation.
3. Bayley’s Menander Silent Knight

1. Glasspool’s Natterjack Tranquil Sea for Gildenmead. Dark blue, nicely put together, good head and expression with toning eye, crest length to height, free flowing gait, good topline and rear angulation. With time feel he will do well.

1. Webb’s Vilmorin Gold Leaf. Brown good head and length of neck, correctly balanced body proportions under a heavy coat, moved soundly. A happy boy who tends to fly his tail.

1. Gill/Cook’s Ramsgrove Homeward Bound to Gillaber JW ShCM Blue, beautiful head and expression with toning eye, good font and correctly angulated rear, level topline, correct length to height ratio, well balanced with effortless movement. One to watch for the future.

1. White’s Moonhill Power of Dreamz JW Good looking slate dog, excellent head and eye, lovely expression, well laid shoulders, ideal length to height ratio, excellent condition which was apparent on the move. Sound free flowing movement; did not put a thing wrong. Well handled and presented RESERVE DOG CC
2. Burfitt’s Breaksea Masquerade. Dark slate of correct size, lovely broad head with matching eye colour, handled well but could have moved with more enthusiasm today, did not have the sparkle of 1.
3. Hale/Burfitt’s Breaksea Jumpin’ Jack Flash

1. Nicholls-Ward’s Bumbleridge’s Naught N Nice JX ShCM Very appealing quality slate boy with mot wonderful melting expression, good broad skull, correct bite, dark eye, well constructed and balanced, correct amount of coat with good texture. Moved well and with drive.
2. Ritchie’s Kirstancourt Kiss N Tail. Nice head and expression with toning eye, well made although, moved well but was rather proud of his tail, which spoils his outline.

1. Hines’ Ramsgroe Ruba JW. Sound slate of good structure, lovely head, eye and expression, well laid shoulders, correct body length with easy movement. Today did not show to his full potential; he has to be gone over to be appreciated.
2. Harkin’s Claudalla Doctor Marigold. Brown with superb had, eye and expression, good length ofnec, balanced construction, ideal length to height, well textured coat, moved with purpose. Well handle and presented. Close decision between 1 and 2.
3. White’s Philemon Moonshadow of Moonhill (Imp Deu)

Open dog (7:1)
1. Lewis’ Potterdale Pisces. Plainer slate dog in excellent coat, super had and eye that toned so beautifully, commanded attention when he entered the ring, good neck set in well placed shoulders, lovely overall proportions, sound free flowing effortless movement in perfect harmony with his hander. Pleased to award him the DOG CC and on the referee’s decision he was BEST IN SHOW.
2. Spurrier’s Ch Geliland Sea Breeze JW. Worthy Champion but today he did not have the sparkle of 1. Beautiful slate in excellent coat whose construction is hard to fault, good deep ribcage, correct length of back, good topline and rear angulation, in well muscled condition. Today not moving as well as I known he can.

1. Ch Geliland Sea Breeze JW
2. Baker’s Ch Malandex Xcalibur. Dark Slate George head and eye, strong muzzle, excellent bone, correct length to height ratio, excellent topline both tanding and moving, easy on the move, a worthy Champion. Just preferred the overall balance of 1.

I should like to thank you all for the support given to the Club and was amazed by my entry. It is a real joy to see that Midshires have maintained the ‘ GARDEN PARTY ‘ atmosphere, the tenting being new to me.
I was really looking forward to this appointment and happy with the majority, but to be honest a few let me down. We all look at our dogs through ROSE COLOURED GLASSES but please take a step back and think have I done my homework, grooming is not enough - how much exercise have we had – are we on the right diet? Beardies have a love for life and sparkle that’s goes with it, unfortunately today that was lacking in the upper classes, I did say at one point now show these youngster how it’s done. Condition is hard to gain but easy to loose, but perhaps they are just ‘ring tired’ whereas the youngsters were fresh and raring to go. I have often read ‘seen this dog go better’ which would not apply in my case, nor should it, it’s the dog on the day.
I was looking for sound, lean, active Beardies who covered ground with minimum of effort and enjoyed life. I paid particular attention to the fully coated girls, although not showing much daylight, they were all in tip-top condition and their placings could not be denied. Is this nature or nurture?
Finally it was very interesting to see that my co-judge & I picked the same kennels for our top honours, long standing (won’t say old) owners of our lovely breed, they have set a bench mark, PLEASE KEEP THAT TRADITION ALIVE.
Minor Puppy Bitch (9.2) A beautiful bunch of babies.
1) Harkin’s Claudalla Jenny Wren This is a very appealing young lady, so much like her grandmother at this age, balanced head, kind eye, good lay & angled shoulders, lovely length and complimenting rear angles, neat hocks. Covered the ground with ease.
2) Thorpe’s Ramsgrove Tyme Glass at Merrythorpe Very close up to winner. feminine head, toning eye, balanced fore & aft, correct height/length ratio, precise in movement,
3) Lewis’s Potterdale Proposal The OAP of the trio being almost 8 mths, nothing to dislike, did not cooperate quite so well on the move.

Puppy Bitch ( 12 )
1) Hard’s Braemoray Isle of Gigha What a cracker! Caught my eye on the first run round & she did not disappoint. Super head, alert expression, her neck flowed into well placed & angled shoulders, good depth of rib, spot on for height/length ratio, strong hindquarters, low set pushy hocks. Movement, as you would expect from her makeup, is her forte, positive & easy. In beautiful condition, enjoying her day, one to watch. BEST PUPPY.
2) Burfitt’s Breaksea Bewitched A balanced brown, good head, & neck, correct body ratio, neat hocks. Movement purposeful. Well presented.
3) Bridger’s Bendale Shady Lady Liked this youngsters construction, today a little ‘ bum high ‘ and was not quite coordinated on the move.
Junior Bitch ( 10.3)
1) Baker’s Malandex Xquisitly Made JW Another girl with excellence written all over her. Grand head, kind expression, good neck leading to well set shoulders, deep in body, correct length of back, firm topline, both standing & on the move, strong neat rear, excelled in muscle tone. Her movement is true & far reaching, beautiful in profile, well presented & handled. To be critical didn’t have the 50/50 body height ratio. Another to trouble the best.
2) Hines’s Ramsgrove Lizzie Lentil Dark slate, not long out of puppy, classically marked, dark expressive eyes, well pigmented, balanced head , liked her reach of neck, correct front & rear angles, gait smooth & far reaching, good muscle tone. Jacket well fitted & of good texture.
3) Sullivan’s Navillus Moonlight Shadow Very much the baby here, well constructed throughout, felt as though she was holding back on movement.

Yearling Bitch (8.2)
1) Lewis’s Potterdale Pure Platinum A truly charming Beardie, the sort you just fall for. She is strongly made but so feminine, strong blue pigment, she has strength of head, with a flat skull, twinkling eyes and so expressive. Well muscled neck leading to well placed shoulders, correct upper arm & depth of chest, good length of rib not loin, excellent turn of stifle and neat short hocks, firm level topline at all times and so well muscled, the best back end I have seen in a long time. In profile so correct in height/length. She comes into her own on the move, so light of foot covering the ground with little or no effort and always attentive. CC
2) Nunley’s Diotima It’s a Wrap at Brenriga Well balanced girl, excellent head & front assemble, good body & matching rear angles, liked her size & so feminine. Another with excellent action. Not quite the length of 1.
3) Waldron’s Snowmead Silent Storm JW Dark slate with super head, darkest of eye & pigment to match. Correct in body ratio & strong rear. Movement strong, but not so far reaching.
Special Veteran Bitch (11.3)
1) Edwards’s Nellbrook Enchantment Liked the type, good head & eye, alert expression, correct depth & length of rib, front & rear angles complimented, in good condition moved out well.
2) Gill & Cook’s Ch Gillaber Drumoak Presented in top condition, good head & eye, well laid shoulder, depth & length of rib, well muscled rear. Another with true movement.
3) Cope’s Ch Menander Chocolate Truffle An attractive mid-brown, surprised to find her a half size up on the others, nicely made throughout, shown to enhance her qualities.

Special Vintage Bitch ( 6.3)
1) Edwards’s Ch Breaksea Devil in Disguise at Nellbrook 11 year old, mother to the Veteran winner & I could see the family resemblance, same comments apply, she is still holding a firm topline and was a difficult decision for Best Veteran.
2) Mangall & Burfitt’s Ch Breaksea Imagine I was so pleased to see her, in 2000 awarded her the CC, could say she is a favourite. Cann’t say anything I’ve not said before. Still going strong, perhaps a little heavier, aren’t we all long may she reign!!!!
3) Clark’s Toriavic Fine Romance Unfortunate to meet 1 & 2, nicely made brown who lost out today to 2 worthy champions.

Post Graduate Bitch ( 18.3 )
1) White’s Moonhill Zweet Dreamz JW What a classy dam this is. Can only say she flows from one department to another without hesitation. Lovely head, set onto a well arched neck, down to shoulders, upper arm & chest, length, shape of rib, onto well turned stifle & neat hocks - all correct. Firm level topline both standing & on the move in excellent condition as you would expect , she covers the ground with grace & ease, paying attention at all times. When she gets her D & G outfit will be hard to beat. I had the good fortune to handle her brother, in the challenge, what a pair. RCC
2) Cope’s Menander Macy Gray A hard act to follow. Lovely type, very feminine, good in front correct on depth & length of rib, well angulated rear & pushy hocks. Firm well held topline, excellent profile. Her movement is true, outreaching and commands a second look.
3) Jamieson’s Potterdale Starlight A shapely slate lady, who is of sound makeup, not in the best of jackets today.
Mid Limit Bitch ( 4.1 )
1) Buckley’s Holtend Sweet Temptation 3 year dark slate, Dark expressive eye, wonderful pigment, moderate neck into well placed shoulder,correct ribbing, well muscled hindquarters. Balanced front & rear. A true Beardie coat which enhanced her profile. Movement was typical of the breed.
2) Fox’s Bushblades American Tune JW Attractive brown with good head, neck & shoulders, correct depth & length of rib, nice rear. Firm topline, movement strong & positive.
3) Wesson’s Barbudo Belleza Slate of 4 years, a good honest Beardie not overdone in any department, nicely balanced, not wearing her trainers today.
Limit Bitch ( 12 )
1) Edwards’s Sengalas Leading Lady of Roxilyn Brown good head, kind expressive eye that toned with coat, well laid angulated shoulder, good upper arm, correct in body, rear angles to compliment. Ground cover was strong & positive.
2) Bush’s Manortonway Midnight Majic Lovely head & excelled in shoulder, good depth & length of rib, nicely angled rear, covered the ground with ease, preferred the extra length of 1.
3) Ritchie’s Navillus Moon Spirit A good honest Beardie, nothing to dislike, was not quite so tidy as 1 & 2 on the move.
Open Bitch (17. 3 )
1) Hudson’s Ch Hisnhers Diamond Lil JW ShCM Dark slate, so beautifully balanced, great head & eye, very good in shoulder down through upper arm & chest. A long rib topped off with a sound rear. In tip top condition which showed in the firmness of topline. Her movement is poetry in motion, unfortunately today she insisted in tossing her head back on the move making her dip just behind the withers. WHY oh WHY. A worthy champion.
2) Baker’s Ch Malandex Xquisit JW Mother to 1st in Junior, I can see the style & makeup. Brown with grand head & neck into excellent shoulders, correct in depth & length of rib, excellent rear angles to complement. Underneath those well presented flowing locks she is extremely fit, which showed in her lightness of foot.
3) Waldron’s Snowmead Silent Memory JW Another one from the top drawer, so similar in many respects, in tip top condition, moved with purpose.
Special Open HD Bitch ( 9. 1 )
1) Mangall & Burfitt’s Breaksea Immortality So like her mother, dark slate classically marked, darked eyed & so expressive. Well pigmented, feminine head, moderate neck into well placed shoulders, good upper arm, correct shaped long rib, hindquarters well muscled. Strong low set hocks, gait long & far reaching. Think I made the same comments on her Mother in 2000. I would love to have her lying under my kitchen table!!!!
2) Bush’s Manortonway Melody Maker Lovely head and front assemble, good reach of neck , liked her depth & length of rib, balanced rear angles, moved true both ways. Jacket of excellent quality.
3) Fox & Farrier’s Bushblades Tranquil Skies at Kayanarra JW ShCM Nice honest girl, with good head & expression, Well angulated throughout, fond of her food, so didn’t have the lightness of foot I was looking for.
